Established in 1989 by the Endangered Wildlife Trust , the Pacuare
Reserve lies on the Caribbean coast between Puerto Limon and Tortuguero
National Park. The Reserve contains a 2000 acre area of lowland
tropical rainforest and a 6km beach provides a nesting ground for 3
species of seaturtle: the Leatherback (Dermochelys
coriacea), Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Green (Chelonia
mydas) Turtle. We operate a volunteer programme between March and August
for groups and individuals who assist in monitoring the laying and
hatching of turtles and protecting the beach from poachers. In 2006, 590 Leatherback and 194 Green Turtle nests were counted,
