Rainforest Concern have teamed up with envirocharities a mobile phone recycling campaign that allows Rainforest Concern supporters to make up to £180 from their old mobile phone(s) by visiting www.rainforestconcern.envirocharities.com
For every phone recycled, rainforest concern will receive a donation of £3.00 which will be used to provide environmental education in schools (www.guidedtour.rainforestconcern.org) and to help communities in developing countries reliant on destructive slash and burn agriculture to find more profitable and sustainable alternatives.
There are an estimated 90 million unwanted mobile phones lying around which laid end to end could reach from London to New York and back again! These phones could end up as 12,000 tonnes of landfill waste and their batteries contain toxic compounds such as cadmium.
Simply click on www.rainforestconcern.envirocharities.com to see how much your phone is worth. When you have found the value of your phone and traded it in, you'll receive a freepost envelope in the post to send your phone back in. Once your phone(s) have been received, your payment will be dispatched within 7 days.
Recycling your mobile phone can help to reduce the impact that mining of the mineral coltan is having on the forests and wildlife of the Congo. Coltan is used to make the rare metal tantalum needed in mobile phones. It comes from Congo rainforests where miners are invading national parks and otherwise unpopulated areas, illegally hunting and slaughtering wildlife to supplement their diet (this is known as "bush meat"). Thousands of endangered animals are being killed including elephants, chimpanzees and forest antelope. In one mining area over half the population of lowland gorillas has already been massacred. Please recycle your old mobile phone so that we can protect areas of threatened rainforest and the incredible wildlife it contains.
A great way to collect inkjet cartridges is to label an old cardboard box and encourage everyone you know to donate their empty cartridges. Once you have collected 50 or more cartridges call envirocharities on: 01625 665800 and they will arrange your free collection. envirocharities will send the cartridges to an independent recycling company and will send you a cheque for half of what is made for the cartridges. It costs you nothing and can make a real difference in saving some of the world's most wildlife-rich rainforests, and make some extra cash for you at the same time. The recycling of these inkjet cartridges and mobile phones can enable us to purchase and protect rainforests, which are some of the world's most bio-diverse environments.
